Foreign Direct Investment to Panama

According to a study made by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Panama occupied the sixth position in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with the reception of USD 5,209 million during last year. The report details that the largest component of FDI that entered to Panama was the reinvestment of profits (66% of the total) and the amount remained at similar level compared to 2015.

ECLAC notes that loans between subsidiaries accounted for 19% of total FDI and fell 7%, while capital income accounted 15% and remained being the smallest component of FDI as in the last four years.

The main investors in the country stand out the United States and Colombia with shares of 23% and 19% of the total in 2015. While the European Union accounted for 13%.
